Walking the talk - Morphum Environmental becomes a carboNZero CertTM certified organisation

Morphum is excited to announce that it is officially a carboNZero certified organisation. This means we measure, manage and mitigate our greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) by working with the carboNZero programme. The carboNZero programme was developed by Landcare Research from over 15 years of research and is the first internationally accredited GHG certification scheme under ISO 14065.

The carboNZero programme requires carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2e) emissions to be neutralised through companywide emission reductions and by purchasing verified carbon credits. Morphum have decided to support a wind farm in Tamil Nadu on the Southern tip of India (more info here). This wind farm will reduce the country's reliance on coal, cutting emissions by around 50,000 tonnes of CO2e emissions per year!

We support the carboNZero requirement for companies to actually make emission reductions and change behaviours rather than just letting organisations offset all emissions. We have therefore committed to reducing our environmental footprint. Through the assessment process, we found our two biggest sources of CO2e emissions were from the use of company cars and electricity consumption. So our aim for this year is to reduce these, which means doing things like fuel efficient driver training and installing energy efficient lighting - we're walking the talk!

It's all part of Morphum's emphasis on sustainability, employees are encouraged to take public transport to work through our travel subsidy scheme and we car share our eco-friendly fleet. We're already part of the Sustainable Business Network, and are working towards certifying our environmental management system to the international standard ISO 14001. Directors Dean Watts, Caleb Clarke and Damian Young are proud of the steps Morphum have taken in order to achieve carboNZero certification, "Our work is all about having a positive impact on the environment. It was logical for us to take the next step and reduce our global environmental impact by reducing our emissions and becoming carboNZero certified" says Dean.
