Morphum Environmental seeks a talented Intermediate Ecologist to join our team!

What is the role?

We are looking for an Intermediate Kaipūtaiao Ao Tūroa (Environmental Scientist or Ecologist) to join our Te Whanganui-a-Tara / Wellington team. The role is for a well-rounded ecologist with fundamental knowledge in freshwater ecology and/or wetland ecology, resource management legislation, policy and practice.  

Your day to day will include, but certainly won’t be exclusive to:

  • Authoring and reviewing ecological impact assessments
  • Undertaking resource consent reviews for local and regional councils
  • Field assessments of streams, rivers, wetlands and associated riparian environments
  • Supporting regional watercourse assessments in partnership with hapū, iwi and councils
  • Collaborating with our engineering team to continuously improve stormwater management practices

About you

  • You have a minimum of a Bachelor of Science (or equivalent); and preferably a Master of Science (or equivalent) in Environmental Science or Freshwater Ecology with 5+ years of practical experience.
  • You have prepared and/or reviewed ecological impact assessments.  
  • You have a demonstrated knowledge in wetland assessment and delineation, and associated reporting.
  • You apply a holistic, catchment scale lens in understanding the health of te taiao  
  • You hold strong environmental values and have a genuine passion for sustainability
  • You are committed to respecting and actively upholding Te Tiriti o Waitangi and tikanga Māori and are willing to continuously engage with mātauranga Māori in relation to your role.
  • You thrive in a fast-paced, interpersonal environment.
  • You have excellent written skills and are confident in presenting to and collaborating with technical and non-technical audiences.
  • You are located in or are willing to relocate to Te Whanganui-a-Tara / Wellington.
