Morphum Environmental seeks a Principal Engineer to join our Tāmaki Makaurau | Auckland team!

What is the role?

We’re looking for an experienced and forward-thinking Principal Engineer to lead and support the delivery of Three Waters projects across Aotearoa. You will lead and manage projects and project teams to ensure the delivery of positive, sustainable outcomes, while finding and creating opportunities for innovation on a range of multidisciplinary projects. You'll work alongside a talented, multidisciplinary team to solve complex water infrastructure challenges in a way that reflects our values and commitment to sustainability and partnership.

Your mahi may include:

  • Leading the design and delivery of Three Waters infrastructure across stormwater and wastewater networks.
  • Providing senior technical oversight and mentoring of design teams.
  • Supporting asset management planning and long-term infrastructure strategies.
  • Advising clients on water-sensitive urban design, climate adaptation, and integrated catchment management.
  • Working closely with mana whenua, council clients, and communities to ensure solutions are context-appropriate and enduring.
  • Contributing to our internal capability building and helping shape the future direction of our engineering practice.

About you

  • You have a minimum of a Bachelor of Civil and/or Environmental Engineering with 15+ years of practical experience.
  • You bring expertise and in-depth knowledge of Three Waters infrastructure assessment, planning design, delivery and strategy, likely gained in a consultancy environment.
  • You’re confident managing complex projects and navigating client relationships with professionalism and care.
  • You’re technically strong and stay up to date with emerging practices and regulatory changes.
  • You thrive in a collaborative, multidisciplinary team and enjoy mentoring and growing others.
  • You bring a commitment to sustainable infrastructure and consider environmental, cultural, and community outcomes in your work.
  • You actively uphold Te Tiriti o Waitangi and value the integration of Mātauranga Māori in engineering solutions.
  • You have excellent communication and storytelling skills and can engage with technical and non-technical audiences alike.
  • You are based in, or open to relocating to, Tāmaki Makaurau / Auckland.
