Seamus O'Mahony

Environmental Scientist

Seamus is an Environmental Scientist specialising in freshwater and coastal ecology at Morphum. He has worked across local government, environmental consulting and major infrastructure projects throughout Aotearoa, bringing a practical and solutions-focused approach to environmental management.

He is passionate about applying sound science to real-world environmental challenges and helping clients make informed decisions that deliver positive outcomes for te taiao. He has experience in water quality monitoring, freshwater and coastal ecological monitoring, environmental investigations, resource consenting and compliance, as well as ecological management within large-scale civil construction projects.

Seamus joined Morphum in 2026 having previously been the technical lead for Greater Wellington Regional Council’s recreational water quality programme, providing freshwater and coastal regulatory advice as a subject matter expert and managing ecological compliance for the Te Ahu a Turanga highway project. Seamus also brings a broad range of environmental monitoring experience spanning hydrology and soil monitoring, terrestrial ecology and erosion and sediment control advice. He has honed his skills through practical construction and environmental planning experience, giving him a strong understanding of how environmental requirements can be effectively integrated into complex projects and delivered on the ground.

Outside of work, Seamus enjoys getting outdoors and exploring the Te Whanganui-a-Tara hills with his dog or the coastline with a fishing rod.
