Local board to investigate Waitakere Ranges coastal and marine environments | Morphum Environmental

Morphum Environmental has been engaged by the Waitākere Ranges Local Board to deliver a coastal and marine report which will cover the existing state of the local marine and coastal environments. This project involves analysing existing data, and focuses on the current status of habitats and resources, gap analysis of the current information, possible causes of impacts and degradation, current community actions and recommended interventions.

The Waitakere and Manukau coast is loved by both locals and tourists for the recreational activities of swimming, surfing, fishing, diving and boating. The Waitākere Ranges Local Board identifies the Manukau Harbour as “a significant cultural, ecological and economic asset, [which] through integrated management has a rich and diverse marine and terrestrial environment that is able to be enjoyed by all” (Manukau Harbour Forum Vision and Strategy).

The project breaks the assessment into four zones – coastal, shore, nearshore and offshore – and looks at unique challenges present in each of these zones.
