Morphum Environmental has been engaged by Tuhoe to develop an integrated design for the management of the “four” waters for a new community development at Ruatahuna in Te Urewera.
Working in a collaborative design team which includes architects, civil engineers and iwi, Morphum Environmental has developed the preliminary design to manage stormwater runoff, centralised rainwater harvest for re-use, advanced wastewater treatment (including subsurface wetland) and daylighting of a remnant stream.
This exciting project is grounded on principles of kaitiakitanga and the need to ensure that the development of the tourist and tribal facilities does not negatively impact on the receiving environment. In addition, the water elements will connect the community to the environment in a tangible way.
Detailed design will be commencing in mid 2016, with construction set for 2017.
